Magnuson Muse & News – August Newsletter
One week away from Meet the Teacher Night!
You don’t want to miss it next Thursday, August 31st from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Let me break it down for you. The first hour is for all of you to meet the teachers, drop off school supplies, pick up uniforms, fill out forms, and say hi to your friends – or meet new ones! At precisely 5:28, I would like you to stop wherever you are and whatever you’re doing to come to the sanctuary for a BACK TO SCHOOL inspiration meeting which will start at 5:30 sharp! Afterward, you will have time to finish up whatever you were doing. It’s really important that you visit our school nurse regarding any health, immunization, or medication topics and our accountant for any tuition/Sycamore questions. Try your best to meet our new Spanish and Art teachers. Visit the middle school rooms! Buy some Spirit Wear. What is that? Non-uniform MCS clothing that can be worn on the 1st and 3rd Fridays…along with jeans! We encourage everyone to wear this Spirit Wear out in the community to support and promote our great school.
Please send an “art” shirt with your child. An oversized undershirt (down to their knees) will do just fine!
I need volunteers to do some library book straightening and shelving along with some laminating cutting (which can be done at home and returned). Let me know if you can assist! Thanks!
5th graders and Middle Schoolers!
We’ve got a new teaching system in place this year which I’m excited about! Mrs. Johnson, the 5th grade teacher, will be teaching 7th and 8th grade Math this year (in addition to 5th grade) while Mrs. Brown, the new Middle School teacher, will be teaching 5th grade Science in addition to Middle School Science and 6th grade Math. I love this overlap and this teamwork.
For children who ride the bus
I’ve been told the buses WILL be running on Sept. 5th, the first day of school. White Bear Lake has three different start dates this year (depending on grade level), and as of today, I have not been given any bus information from the WBL district. I believe the bus company has been in contact with parents already. Thank you in advance for knowing how your child will get to and home from school the first day! If you could confirm your child’s bus situation with me, I would greatly appreciate it.
Community of Grace
We are housed in Community of Grace Lutheran Church. It’s an awesome church by the way! This year they will be closing their offices on Fridays at 12:30 p.m. This means that you will have access to school through the side entrance door which children go through in the mornings if you drop them off. The childcare, Lake Area Discovery Center or LADC, is moving to a more secure system (using fabs), so you will not be able to enter their doors or the church main doors. Phone calls will be rolled over to our school on Friday afternoons.
Don’t forget the Boo Hoo Yahoo Breakfast on the first day of school!
Where are our English majors, journalists, and potential authors?
We are looking for people who are interested in doing some grant writing for our school. There are SO many opportunities out there! Our school could really benefit from grants. We’ve got some grants earmarked, so let me know if you’d be willing to put a little time and effort into this beneficial project.
That was the “news” part. Here is the “muse” part. It’s becoming very real for me now. God has been teaching me many things this summer. I’ve known that we need to trust God and have faith in Him. This summer, He has challenged me. Challenge is good. Change is good. After many, many weeks of hard work, complete dependence on the Lord, and inspiration from His Word, I feel ready and excited. Everything good that comes from this year will be God’s handiwork. Apart from Him, we can do nothing. I will give it my all. Micah 6:8 says,
What does the Lord require of you? Act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God.
Let’s do this!
