June 2022 Parent Newsletter
Greetings, MCS families!
It is hard to believe another school year has come to an end, and I hope your children had a wonderful time learning and growing at Magnuson this year. It was a joy to get to know so many of the students when I subbed this year. I wish you all a fantastic summer with your families.
Please enjoy the last blog post of the 2021-22 school year—we have many terrific photos and anecdotes to share in the June edition!
~Julia Arnold (a.k.a “Mrs. A”)
Field Trip Fun
On April 28th, the 5th and 6th grade classes enjoyed a day trip to the Osprey Wilds Environmental Learning Center in Sandstone, Minnesota.
Mrs. Johnson shared the following about this special day: “Students participated in archery, an Ojibwe hike, and an orienteering class. Learning to use a compass to navigate a course in the woods was great fun! We are thankful for our parent chaperones and a fantastic day of learning in the Lord’s beautiful creation!”
Annual 4th Grade State Float Project
Each year, Ms. Ahrenholz has her fourth-grade class work on a “State Float” project. Students and parents look forward to the creative State Float Parade each spring!
Ms. A shares some details about the project: “The goal of the state float is to have students explore the unique features of their chosen state. They are “promoting” their state to their audience in a creative, colorful, and fun way! The floats are portable and are set on top of a coaster wagon. The students wrote a creatively written description that was read during the parade.”
Bottle Buddies
Each spring, second graders create a “bottle buddy.” Ms. Coleman explained the goal of this creative, cross-curricular project: “Second graders researched a Famous American. Some examples include presidents, inventors, writers, or politicians. This was a cross-curricular learning experience as students were writing, researching, using technology and creating as well. The research and writing were done in class. Students used Google Docs as their final publishing step to create a riddle for their audience to try and solve who their Famous American was. The Bottle Buddies were created at home with some provided guidance and steps.”
Field Day, MPTP, and Magnuson Dads Unite
Magnuson Dads Unite is a group of MCS dads who help out around the school, church, and local community. They recently assisted Mr. Severson with Field Day, during which they participated in an epic Dads vs. 5th/6th Grade Tug o’ War contest!
Mr. Severson, our P.E. teacher, shared this: “God blessed us in many ways on Field Day! Thank you to our hard-working volunteers for making this event happen. The teachers endured through eleven stations and kept their classes moving through the whole event. The students had a blast as they demonstrated good sportsmanship and used their talents in a variety of ways. It was especially fun to watch students work together during relay running and go all out during Tug of War! This was an amazing event!"
In addition, the MDU and Magnuson Parent Teacher Partnership (MPTP) hosted a fun-filled year-end party on June 2nd, serving up grilled delights and root beer floats to MCS families. The weather was beautiful, and everyone had a blast! It was a great way to celebrate a successful school year.
Spring Concert
On the evening of May 24, MCS families enjoyed an incredible Spring Concert organized by Ms. Lee. MCS parent and pianist Kara Leiser accompanied the students on piano.
The choir, band, and music classes—kindergarten through sixth grade—did a fantastic job! The church Sanctuary was filled with families gathering to hear the joyful music that culminated in a school-wide version of “Happy.”
Principals for a Day
This spring, one of the most prized Gifts for Growth Gala auction items was the chance to be “Principal for the Day.” Two students had the opportunity to be principals, with Director Mrs. Norman spending the day with them and giving them plenty of leadership opportunities (and a special Jimmy Johns lunch!). The brother-and-sister duo, Carter and Ava, had a terrific time. The best part? They gave the whole school extra recess and popsicles! As you can imagine, they were very popular directors.
Magnuson Talent Show
Last but not least of the much-anticipated spring events was the MCS Talent Show. On Friday, June 3, students in grades kindergarten through sixth grade had the opportunity to share their talents with the Magnuson community. It was an afternoon filled with music, laughter, sports, and more!
Verse of the month:
This month, I’m sharing my 12-year-old son’s favorite verse. I think it’s a wonderful one to commit to memory at any age, whether you are starting a new chapter, about to begin a journey, or achieving a new milestone.
I can do all things in Christ who strengthens me.
Philippians 4:13
Blessings to you and your families this Summer!

March/April 2022 Parent Newsletter
Greetings and happy spring, MCS families!
I hope you enjoyed a wonderful spring break with your families. I’m in the school building frequently, either guest teaching or picking up my children, and it is joyful to see students in the classrooms and hallways. There is nothing quite like the beautiful energy of children!
For me, Spring always arrives with a feeling of hope and renewal. With Easter fast approaching, my prayer is that your hearts are filled with expectant hope and joy as well.
Magnuson Q & A
MCS Q & A: In this blog post, I’m sharing a Q & A session with Magnuson dad and MCS Board Chair, Nick Boehland.
Q. Tell us about yourself and your connection to Magnuson.
A. My name is Nicholas Boehland, and I am a parent volunteer serving on the MCS Board, currently as Chair. My wife’s name is Heather and we have two kids. Ava is our oldest child and she is in Mrs. Johnson’s 5th grade class. Our youngest, Carter, is in Ms. Coleman’s 2nd grade class. Both of our kids have been part of MCS since kindergarten.
Q. What led your family to MCS, and why is it a great fit for your family?
A. My wife and I are followers of Christ and wanted our kids to have biblical values woven into their formal educational experience. We believe that building a strong foundation on Christ is important and starting at the pre-school/elementary age is critical to long-term development. MCS provides this, and so much more! In addition to reinforcing biblical values, MCS has an outstanding curriculum taught by some of the finest teachers around; we are truly blessed!
Q. Last, why did you join the MCS Board and what exactly does a "Board Chair" do?
A. Great question! Our family joined MCS to be part of a thriving community and to serve with the team that helps make it all happen. Since joining MCS, we have had the opportunity to volunteer for a number of events and activities. Specifically related to the MCS Board – I joined in 2017 and have served as a member, Secretary, Treasurer, Vice Chair, and now Board Chair. What does the Board Chair do? I have always viewed my position as a supporting role for the school. It’s my job to help provide the necessary resources to our Director, Heather Norman, and to help provide direction on a number of different topics. Additionally, I spend a lot of time leading our team in discussions about how MCS can explore new and exciting ways to bring affordable, Christ-centered, quality education to our families while providing a great work environment and career opportunities for our amazing staff. Currently, our MCS Board is working on a project to build out and expand our Middle School program and we hope to have exciting news to share with you in the months ahead! If you want to learn more about what we do or how to get involved, I’d be more than happy to connect with you; please let me know!
Nick can be reached at board@magnusonschool.org.
Club Volunteers needed!
Do you have a hobby you would enjoy sharing with Magnuson students? Do you enjoy running, acting, or drawing? We would love parents, grandparents, and guardians to lead after-school, extracurricular clubs this spring. If you are interested in committing to leading a club for our students once a week, please email the board or Mrs. Norman!
Inventors Fair
Each spring, fourth grade teacher, Ms. Ahrenholz, has her class host an Inventors Fair. The 4th graders recently wrapped up a unit on Simple Machines by creating a Rube Goldberg device. For those who don’t know, a Rube Goldberg device is a machine that completes a simple task using a complicated series of several simple machines. They are super cool!
Their unique devices were shared with the whole class as well as with judges and guests at this year’s Inventors Fair in March at MCS.
This year's winners are…drumroll please… 1st Place: Aria B; 2nd place: Abby K; 3rd Place Nathan H.
Congratulations and well done on your hard work and creative thinking, students!
Field Trip Fun
On March 15, the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade classes went on a special field trip to Concordia Academy to watch the high school students perform Annie. It was a wonderful opportunity for classes to see a fantastic live performance at a school where many of our middle school graduates attend.
Magnuson Dads Unite
Magnuson Dads Unite is a group of MCS dads who pitch in to help around the school, church, and local community. This spring, MDU is planning on hosting an end-of-year BBQ. Stay tuned for the date and get EXCITED—they will be grilling meat and making root beer floats for the kids and staff! They’ll also be helping out Mr. Severson with Field Day in late May.
If you are an MCS dad who would like to volunteer with the MDU group, please reach out to Nick Hudson at nickhudson6@hotmail.com.
Music, Choir, and Band Updates
Ms. Lee shares, “March has been a busy month in the Music room! In honor of St. Patrick's Day, students have spent time singing, dancing to, and listening to Irish music. Among their favorites are singing Rattlin' Bog (perhaps your student has sung it for you!); watching Riverdance, a group that does Irish step dancing; and listening to the bodhrán, an Irish drum. In addition to Irish music, the 4th Graders have just begun learning recorders. They have displayed great musicianship and have proved to be quick learners. Despite the stereotype of recorder being a pesky instrument at first, I've truly been enjoying hearing them play!
Our Spring Concert is coming up soon on Tuesday, May 24th, time TBD. Please mark your calendars to celebrate all your students have learned in Music, Choir, and Band this year!”
Art Updates
Ms. Mesenbourg shares, “The upper grades (4-6) are done with their Drawing from Graphic Materials pieces. 4th grade drew humpback whales…and 5th and 6th grade drew giraffes…The younger grades have completed a one point perspective farmland landscape in soft pastels and will be starting an architectural project done in watercolors this week, while the upper grades are still working on the soft pastels landscape.”
Check out some of the wonderful creativity below!
Mark your calendars. We have a lot of exciting events and activities coming up!
Upcoming Dates:
No school: Good Friday, April 15, and Easter Monday, April 17.
Saturday, April 23, Gifts for Growth Gala, the annual Magnuson fundraiser. Featuring student musical performances, dinner, and a live auction, this is sure to be a special evening for our community to come together to support Magnuson! Email our Gala director, Mrs. Lemke, if you would like to volunteer for any last-minute help she needs. Tickets are still available.
May 24, MCS Spring Concert, time TBD.
May 27, MCS Field Day: Mr. Severson says to get ready for outdoor fun and games, including potato sack races and a big game of tug-o-war!
Verse of the month:
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
2 Corinthians 5:17
Blessings to you and your families this spring!

February 2022 Parent Newsletter
It was extra-festive at Magnuson in the days leading up to Christmas break. Check out a photo of Mrs. Fehrmann (kindergarten teacher) and Ms. Coleman (second grade teacher), in their unplanned, matching holiday attire!
Some of the fifth and sixth grade moms made mini gingerbread houses for the students to decorate at a surprise Christmas party their teachers planned. A LOT of icing was needed for these jolly little structures.
As you can see, students had a fantastic time working together to create gingerbread house villages.
Magnuson Q & A
In honor of Valentine’s Day, we asked several MCS students and teachers what they LOVE about our school. Here are their responses:
Joselyn, 6th grade: “The teachers care about their students. They will help when needed, and know each of them personally.”
Ivan, 3rd grade: “The thing I love most about Magnuson are the kids. They’re nice and they include me. I also like science class because we get to do lots of experiments.”
Mrs. Frick, Middle School Teacher: “What I love about MCS is the feeling of being part of a family. The love and support from staff, students and parents are what keep me going during the hard times.”
John, 6th grade: “I like that all the people there are nice, that it’s a Christian school, and it’s not too big.”
Makynlea, 4th grade: “I love that there are nice teachers, praying every day and no bullying.”
Mayson, 3rd grade: “There are great teachers, nice friends, fun activities and smaller classes!”
Ms. Lee, Music, Choir and Band Teacher: “I love many things about MCS, but one that comes to mind in particular is the work ethic of the 5th/6th Grade Choir. They embrace the crazy singer spirit and are always ready to put in the work on challenging music. I am so proud of all the things they've accomplished this year!”
Kokoro Gym Fun
In January, MCS students started to enjoy two trips each week to Kokoro Gym for P.E. Looking at the photos, it’s obvious that students from kindergarten through sixth grade are loving it! Students in all grades enjoy volleyball, indoor soccer, track, tag, scooters and more during their time there.
Save the Date
The Magnuson Christian School Gala will be here before we know it, and Mrs. Lemke is hard at work planning the big event. Please reach out to her if you can volunteer for the Gala, or if you have any great ideas for the silent or live auction.
Mark your calendar to join us on Saturday, April 23rd at Oak Glen in Stillwater!
Art Updates
Our talented art teacher, Mrs. Mesenbourg, shared what MCS have been busy creating during art class: “Students used graphic materials to add detail and create an original work of art. The main subject of each piece was guided drawing, but all other animals and background details were created by students using the five basic elements of shape (straight line, curved line, angle line, dot, and circle) and looking carefully at graphic materials.
All students were asked to color in all the white before finishing. 3rd-6th grades were asked to create line quality by thickening and broadening a few lines. They were also required to use shading or textured color (pattern) somewhere in their picture using straight or curved-line stripes, grid, checkerboard, polka dots, or cross-hatching.”
Here are some creative examples!
February Newsletter Verse:
Last year’s annual MCS verse seems especially fitting for February.
A new command I give you: love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

December 2021 Parent Newsletter
My son and daughter enrolled in MCS last year. My husband and I quickly saw the positive changes in our children as they were immersed in faith throughout each school day. Praying with their classmates, actively participating in Chapel, studying the Bible every day—it has brought them closer to Jesus on a regular basis.
Last December, when my then 8-year-old daughter and I were setting up our little ceramic Nativity scene, she put the tiny baby Jesus figurine in his manger and said, “This is my son. I love him very much!”
She quoted scripture—on her own! What a sweet, 2nd grade translation of Matthew 3:17.
Talk about priceless Christmas gifts. It’s one I will always remember and cherish. Sending our children to a Christian school has been a blessing to my family, and I hope it is for all of you as well.
Merry Christmas!
Magnuson Q & A
I asked a handful of MCS students and staff what they are most excited to do over Christmas break.
Here are their answers!
Ella, 3rd grade: "My favorite part of the holidays is giving presents and seeing the joy on your family's faces and spending time with relatives! And enjoying favorite family traditions, meals, and outings. It’s finding your elf and creeping down the stairs to find presents under the tree from Santa Claus!”
Elizabeth, 3rd grade: “To celebrate Jesus’ birth and make cookies with my mom!”
Ms. Ahrenholz, 4th grade teacher: “I'm looking forward to spending time reflecting on and celebrating Jesus' birth. I'm also excited to spend time with my family, including my brother and his family visiting from Indiana.”
Raya, 3rd grade: “to celebrate Christmas with the family and open presents.”
Isaac, kindergarten: “to celebrate Jesus’s birthday.”
Magnuson Dads Unite News
MDU—Magnuson Dads Unite—was at it again. On November 20th, a group of Magnuson dads and their kids helped rake leaves for neighbors who needed a hand. It was a great way for MCS families to get to know each other while serving those in need. Plus, they had fun!
MCS parent Nick Hudson organizes efforts like this. Please reach out to him at hello@magnusonschool.org with “MDU” in the subject line if you are interested in pitching in.
Did you hear?
On November 23rd, MCS students participated in a special Grandparents Day Chapel that livestreamed on Magnuson’s Facebook page. It was dedicated to all of the wonderful grandparents out there, though families of all generations enjoyed tuning in.
The MPTP Heggie’s pizza fundraiser was a great success. Students sold approximately 985 pizzas total to raise money for the school!
Kindergarten mom Britta Richter has started a Moms in Prayer International group at MCS. The group meets at 9:15 a.m. on Mondays in the Fireside Room (by the double doors) for about one hour. Everyone is welcome. Please join the group when you can!
Art News
MCS parents are well-acquainted with the beautiful artwork our children bring home after creating in Mrs. Mesenbourg’s class. Mrs. Mesenbourg shared what MCS students were up to in November:
She writes, “We sent Thanksgiving cards to Louann Lindbeck and Vangie Hagfors to thank them for being blessings to Magnuson. Everyone used oil pastels and wrote thoughtful messages inside. K-2 did pumpkins and 3-6 did a turkey…We talked about highlights on the pumpkin and the many colors of the pumpkin to help students add other colors besides orange to their pumpkins…For the turkey, we talked about the different colors besides brown that we saw in the turkey's feathers, including red, orange, green, and purple.”
She shared two photos of wonderful, student-created art with us. The lovely pumpkin is by a kindergarten student, and the fantastic turkey is by a fifth grader.
Music News:
My heart leaps for joy and with my song I praise him! Psalm 28:7
Like the popular Christmas song suggests, this might just be the most wonderful time of year to sing and rejoice. Our talented music, choir, and band teacher Ms. Lee shares some updates with us:
“Magnuson students have been hard at work preparing for this year's virtual Christmas program. The finalized video will be shared with families the week leading up to Christmas; be on the lookout for that! Before leaving for Christmas break, a goodie bag will be sent home with your student to enjoy while you watch the Christmas program. I encourage you to make it a family event and watch the entire program together. Just as Christ was born into an earthly family, there's something special about journeying with our own families to the manger. I'm so proud of all the effort these students have put in to not only sound beautiful, but to lead us in worship to adore the newborn King!”
We can’t wait to tune in!
Important Dates:
Get ready for the popular MPTP bake sale. It’s the perfect time to pick up some delicious hostess gifts and treats for your upcoming celebrations. The bake sale will be December 19th, 8:30-12:30 p.m., in the CGLC lobby.
December 20-January 3: Christmas Break.
We hope you enjoy celebrating Christmas and spending time with family. We look forward to seeing students when school resumes, Monday, January 3rd!
December Newsletter Verse:
There are many wonderful verses to share during the Christmas season, but as we approach the darkest day of the year, it seems fitting to remember the true light of the world!
“The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him.”

Blessed are the meek,

MCS Stories: Family Highlight
“How We Found Magnuson:” Hayli’s Story
In June of 2019, Hayli M.’s family thought they had her school plans all figured out. She would begin her school career at the local public elementary school that fall, starting with kindergarten.
The Lord had other plans.
Hayli and her parents, Jason and Lori, were enjoying a warm summer evening watching the Hugo Good Neighbors Day parade, when the Magnuson group came by. They were handing out plastic cups featuring the Magnuson name and logo, and Lori got one.
Each year, MCS staff and volunteers hand out hundreds-- if not thousands-- of these trusty cups at the Hugo Good Neighbors Day parade and the White Bear Lake Manitou Days Parade as a way to spread the word about the school to local families. The cups are now quite famous among local parade-goers.
Lori remembers when she got the cup, it made her think “Hm, what’s this school?” Her husband was curious too, and they set up a tour. After they toured, Lori says, “Jason and I were walking to the parking lot, and I asked ‘what do you think?’ His response was, ‘I think we should enroll her. My response was ‘I think so too!’”
They haven’t looked back.
The couple liked that the school isn’t affiliated with a specific denomination, and that the curriculum is Christ-centered. Lori explains, “we wanted Hayli to have that outside of church too, and not just at home. And,” she adds, “it seemed like they had a personal relationship with all the students because the classes were smaller.”
When asked if the school has lived up to their hopes and dreams, Lori says, “it has absolutely! The teachers have time to focus on each child, and they have the resources to help them…everyone knows everyone.”
As for Hayli, the almost-second grader might just speak for the majority of students when she shares her favorite part of school: “Being outside and playing with friends!”
And what happened to that special plastic parade cup that changed the course of Hayli’s education? They still have it. It’s in their bathroom—Hayli uses it when she brushes her teeth.
Magnuson Q & A
I asked a handful of MCS students and staff a two-part question: “What was one of your favorite summer experiences, and what are you most excited to do once you’re back at Magnuson this September?”
Here are their answers!
Luke J., incoming 5th grader: “This summer, my favorite thing was spending time on Lake Superior with my family… and this year I’m excited to read lots of great books and head up to the Audubon for the fifth-grade class getaway.”
Bella C., incoming 3rd grader: “This summer…spending time with school and neighbor friends, and [this year] I’m looking forward to everything being back to normal.”
Elizabeth A., incoming 3rd grader: “I liked tubing on the lake with my friends this summer, and I am excited for reading and math at school.”
Ms. Coleman, MCS 2nd grade teacher: “My favorite summer moments were my trips back home to North Dakota. I got to spend quality time with some dear friends and relatives. I am looking forward to working on a team this year! It will be wonderful to collaborate and share my joy of teaching with our new second grade teacher Beth!”
John A., incoming 6th grader: “My favorite summer experience was baseball, and I am looking forward to Gym at Magnuson.”
Maggie C., incoming 5th grader: “My favorite part was trapeze camp, and I’m looking forward to seeing friends.”
Mrs. Johnson, MCS 5th grade teacher: “We had a wonderful Florida vacation with our three married children, their spouses, and three grandchildren! We loved the beach, pool, and a special wedding reception given for our newly married daughter and son-in-law! I am super excited to meet my 5th graders and to begin studying the Bible together.”
Ella S., incoming 2nd grader: “My favorite summer experience was swimming in my pool…I’m most excited to see my friends and all the teachers and learn new things.”
Welcome, New MCS Staff!
Before the 2021-22 school year is officially in swing, I want to extend a warm welcome to the newest members of the Magnuson staff! We hope you feel as excited to be here as we are to have you as part of this special community.
Monthly Verse
In each post, I’ll share a Bible verse. As we enter a new school year – with all the excitement and feelings that can bring – I want to share an especially encouraging verse:
Finally, each month, I’ll share school and classroom updates, Magnuson stories, Q&A, and more. If you have family or student news you’d like to share with the MCS community, please send me an email at hello@magnusonschool.org with “MCS Blog” in the subject line!

Covid-19 Update #8
This information was sent to families on 7/24/2020
Magnuson Christian School Family and Community,
Our school is committed to providing a safe and healthy workplace for all staff, students, and anyone on the school premises. To ensure we have a safe and healthy school, MCS has developed the following COVID-19 Preparedness Plan. (To request Magnuson Christian School’s Preparedness Plan, please email hello@magnusonschool.org.) We believe this plan allows for onsite learning to safely resume this fall.
This week Governor Walz announced Executive Order 20-81 requiring all Minnesotans to wear a face-covering inside public buildings. This mandate references private schools. We are currently working with the Minnesota Independent Schools Forum to determine if this order will impact Magnuson Christian School. It is our intention and desire to encourage the use of masks during school but to allow the final decision to rest in the hands of parents. Please note that our plan may need to be adapted after the full impact of Executive Order 20-81 on private schools is determined.
We will continue to seek more clarification about this latest mandate and update the Magnuson Christian School community and families as soon as possible.
As always, feel free to contact the Board with any questions at hello@magnusonschool.org.
Sincerely in Christ,
Magnuson Christian School Board of Directors

Covid-19 Update #7
This information was sent to families on 6/19/2020
After carefully reviewing information related to COVID-19; and participating in discussions with independent and private school leaders, White Bear Lake Public Schools, and health professionals; the Magnuson Christian School Board of Directors have made the decision to return to in-person learning for the 2020-2021 school year.
A preliminary safety plan has been created, and a task group has been formed to ensure all possible health and safety measures will be considered. This plan will be shared in July, and we will provide a time for families to ask questions. We also understand some families need to continue with distance learning, so a plan will be created to meet those needs as well.
This has been a trying time for all, and there are many factors to consider. In the end, we believe returning to school is the best option. We will take every precaution to protect the health and safety of our students, families, and staff.
As always, feel free to contact the Board with any questions at hello@magnusonschool.org.
Sincerely in Christ,
Magnuson Christian School Board of Directors

Covid-19 Update #6
This information was sent to families on 4/23/2020
Trust the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. ~ Proverbs 3:5
Dear Magnuson Families and Staff,
It is with great sadness and disappointment we share the news that today, Governor Walz announced that Minnesota schools will be closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. As part of this order Walz instructed Minnesota schools to continue distance learning through the remainder of the academic school year.
While this news was anticipated by many, it is still very difficult for all of us to end the school year in this way. We miss our students, we miss our families, we miss being together!
What does this announcement mean for Magnuson Christian School?
Our wonderful students and staff will continue to teach through remote learning for the remainder of the school year. All of our amazing teachers continue to work countless hours to provide our children with the best quality education. The teachers are amazing, and the students are amazing as well! We are so very proud of each and every one of them and their efforts.
Additional information will be sent out to families next week about when our next distance learning pick up will be, when personal items may be picked up, and when items will be returned to school.
What does this announcement mean for Eighth Grade Graduation?
We know this raises questions about graduation for our 8th graders. This is not how anyone had planned to finish out this school year. Our staff is so disappointed that this is how this school year has to end. We have watched you grow personally, academically, and spiritually and are so very proud of your accomplishments. We are exploring options and remaining hopeful that some time this summer we can come together to celebrate our school year and be in community with one another.
We are so very saddened by the need to end the school year in this way. Please know that the health and safety of our students and staff continues to be of upmost importance to us. We are trusting that finishing the school year through remote learning is one of the most effective ways we can do our part to avoid exposing anyone to unnecessary risks.
Please know our thoughts and prayers are with each of your families during this challenging time. Please know you can reach out to us at anytime, we want to support you.

Distance Learning Required through May 5th
The Governor announced Wednesday that all Minnesota school districts must implement a Distance Learning Period from March 30 to May 4. At Magnuson, we have been ahead of the curve, implementing review and instruction that began Monday. We have an amazing group of teachers committed to your children and we miss them so much!
What this means for our school is the following:
We will continue our Distance Learning Program until May 4th (unless otherwise directed by Governor Walz).
Tomorrow from 1 to 2 pm families with students in Kindergarten, Second Grade and Third Grade need to pick up the additional packets for their students.
In response to the state-wide Stay at Home Executive Order effective Friday, March 27th at 11:59 pm to Friday April 10th all of our staff will be working remotely. While our teachers have already been working from home, administrative staff will not be on campus until after the order is lifted.
If you have questions, please let us know via email. I will continue to check our voicemail on a regular basis and respond to needs.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Norman, Principal
Mrs. Lemke, Health Aide
Covid-19 Update #4
This information was sent to families on 3/16/2020
Dear Parents,
We wanted to update you on our current plan here at Magnuson Christian School to provide for your children while schools are not in session. As we look forward to distance learning programs we request that all of our parents fill out the following survey by tomorrow at noon. We want to ensure that your children can complete the work we will be sending home and have access to the resources that each of our classroom teachers will provide.
Over the next two days our teachers will be compiling student packets for students to complete at home from March 23rd through March 27th. Classroom teachers will also be contacting parents via email with an outline of their plan over the next week. If the school closure time is extended, we will arrange for a second pick up pending updates from the federal and state government.
On Thursday, March 19th, and Friday, March 20th, we will have a drive through to pick up the packets for students on the west entrance of the building (the Extended Day door) for families to pick up. Pick up times will be as follows:
Thursday: 3 pm to 5 pm
Friday: 1 pm to 3 pm
For those of you who need to borrow a Chromebook, please be sure to complete the survey prior to this pick up time. You will need to sign a waiver prior to taking a Chromebook home if you request the use of one for your child. Devices are limited so we ask that you only request a device if you have a need. Students in grades second through Middle School will be expected to complete coarse work on devices.
Details about pick up:
We ask that the parents coming to pick up remain in their car.
Please note that the only students that will be allowed in the building are Middle School students who need to open their lockers to get their books. This is to ensure the safety of both the students and the staff.
If you have any questions for your child’s teacher please utilize email. Teachers will not be onsite during the packet pickups on Thursday and Friday.
As things continue to change we will keep in communication with all of you. We recognize that we are in uncharted territory and want to be here for you in any way we can. Feel free to send questions to Mrs. Norman or Mrs. Lemke as you have them.

Covid-19 Update #2

School Closed – Monday & Tuesday
MCS Closed 3/16 and 3/17
We have just received the following communication from the White Bear School District:
“Due to additional planning and preparation needed related to the COVID-19 situation, White Bear Lake Area Schools is extending the district’s Spring Break by two days, with students returning to school on Wednesday, March 18. The district will be closed to students on Monday, March 16 and Tuesday, March 17.
At this time, the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) and Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) are recommending that districts remain open until further notice. It is expected that school will be back in session for students starting Wednesday, March 18.”
As you know Magnuson Christian School follows the decisions and guidelines of the White Bear School district. MCS will also use these two additional days of spring break in order to prepare for students to return.
While we do not anticipate this impacting any of our MCS families we also would like to send you the following MDH guideline:
“To slow the spread of COVID-19, the CDC and MDH are recommending that travelers who return from a country with a Level 3 Advisory stay home from school and work for 14 days. A list of these countries can be found here. If symptoms (fever, cough, shortness of breath) appear within these 14 days, we encourage you to call your doctor and report symptoms and travel history.”
If this guideline applies to your family, please let both your teacher and Mrs. Norman know. We will work alongside any families that may fall under this guideline for needing additional time home.
At Magnuson we are family. During this time we need to work together for the health and safety of everyone. If you, your family, or your children have been exposed to COVID-19, we need you to communicate this to us. We will continue to notify you with any changes or developments.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Norman
Mrs. Lemke
Covid-19 Update #1
This information was sent to families on 3/3/2020
Good Afternoon Parents,
We wanted to send a special communication to our families regarding the growing concerns about the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). As of Friday, February 28th, the Minnesota Department of Health stated that, “at this time, the risk of becoming sick with COVID-19 is low, including for people in Minnesota schools.” Please take a moment to review the statements and updates given from the Minnesota Department of Health and the White Bear School District by clicking here.
We have been in communication with the White Bear district about the situation and they will continue to inform us of any updates and changes to the status of this outbreak. We will also implement any action plans they recommend should changes become necessary.
In the meantime, we would like to remind parents of the importance of keeping your child home if they are not well enough to go to school. Click here for the guidelines. Especially important during this already busy flu season are the following guidelines:
Keep your child home if:
They have a FEVER (≥ 100°). Students must stay home until they have been fever free for 24 hours without the aid of fever reducing medication. Measure your child’s temperature before giving medications to reduce fever.
They are VOMITING (two or more episodes). Students must stay home for 24 hours after last episode.
They have ANY RASH that may be disease related, or the cause is unknown. Check with your child’s physician before returning to school.
Finally, if you are interested in reading the guidelines from the Minnesota Department of Health to our schools, please click here.
As we continue to receive updates from the WBL district, we will continue to communicate with parents should there be any implemented changes in the district.
Sincerely,
Heather Norman, Principal
Tiffany Lemke, Health Aide
